This is the Missouri Newspaper confirming that the United States officially joined the Great War. It took a very long time for the U.S to finally join the war.
U.S neutrality
The United States originally had a policy of Isolationism. Americans stated that is was a European War and that it wasn't a war for the U.S to fight in. There are many immigrants the occupy our country. During the Great War, immigrants often supported their homeland. The United States had many immigrants from the Central Powers at this point in the war.
Even though the U.S claimed its neutrality, we were still shipping and exporting supplies. The United States spent about 2.6 million dollars on war bonds. Only Twenty-Seven of this were German bonds. Bonds that were sold to the Allied Powers during World War 1 can be referred to as Liberty bonds. When you subscribe to a bond, it is a sign of patriotic duty to the U.S and is a representation of financial security.
